The brain has an excellent ability to distinguish faces and other complex objects. For several decades now, scientists have been unsuccessfully struggling with the problem and trying to understand how such recognition occurs - how images are encoded and stored in the brain. According to generally accepted ideas, the process of recognition (identification of objects) occurs in the inferotemporal cortex, that is, the inferotemporal zone of the brain. But until now it remained unclear what role individual neurons play in encoding data and how many neurons are actually involved in the process.
