Astrocytes are the most numerous glial cells (the “auxiliary” tissue of the nervous system); moreover, they occupy half of the total volume of the brain. Every year, the number of functions attributed to them expands - they not only serve as a mechanical support for the growth of neurons, but also support many aspects of their life.
