The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (or just DARPA) has its hands full, but it has added another interesting challenge to its list of projects - to create a computer that would have the same functions as the brain of a mammal. DARPA wants to build a machine that would be based on the structure of the neocortex, that is, the large part of the human brain responsible for higher functions, such as motor skills, speech, sensory and other functions involved in these process activities. The agency has already submitted an application for the "Cortex Processor" implementation, under which DARPA will collect and analyze data to further develop complex data networks.
