Knowing the detailed anatomical structure of the human brain is essential to understanding its functionality. Existing reference atlases are not of high quality: they are relatively low resolution or incomplete, or lack structure annotations. For a long time, atlases of the human brain were inferior to atlases of the brains of worms, flies and mice in quality, spatial resolution and completeness. This is due to technical limitations due to the enormous size and complexity of the human brain. Needless to say, if atlases from a hundred years ago are still often used in medicine.
