A New Type of Supercomputer Could Be Based on 'Fairy Dust'

Researchers from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), the University of Cambridge, the University of Southampton and Cardiff University used quantum particles known as polaritons, which are a mixture of light and matter, as a “beacon” showing the way to the simplest solution to complex problems. This new idea could become the basis of a new type of computer, capable of solving currently intractable problems in various fields, be it biology, finance or space travel. The results of the study were published in the journal Nature Materials.
