In July, neuroscientist Sebastian Seung (Korean, English: Hyunjune Sebastian Seung) and his collaborators completed their 18-month marathon. Working with roughly a terabyte of data, the scientists used artificial intelligence to reconstruct all the neural wiring within a 0.001 cubic millimeter slice of the mouse's cerebral cortex. The result is an intricate wiring diagram that Seung's lab will use to further study the cerebral cortex. For example, researchers will be able to figure out how individual circuits are connected and how they perform calculations.
