Carbon fiber in artificial muscles

Scientists from the USA and France have created artificial muscles capable of lifting a load with a mass 12.6 thousand times greater than their own. They consist of carbon fibers and polymer twisted into a spiral thread, and are driven by an electric current, which causes the thread to contract, write developers in the magazine Smart Materials and Structures.
