The main problem in the relationship between teacher and student is that it is difficult for the mentor to get feedback - how much the student understands what is being said or how something works, even if the latter conscientiously nods his head and says “I understand.” Researchers from Darmouth were able to assess the degree of understanding using functional magnetic resonance imaging. The results of a unique experiment of its kind were published in Nature Communications.
